2017 PRIORITY MALE INSTITUTE
is a free 16-week life skills and job readiness program for young males, 18-28 years of age.
“From the school house to the court house, the odds seem to be pervasively stacked against the Black male. Unemployment rates, school drop-out rates, income levels and incarceration rates of Black males, as compared with White males and Black females, are clear indicators of the challenges they face. This is particularly true for young Black males 18-28 years of age. Too many young men in this age bracket are caught in the gap between youth & full manhood, with no hands-on support to help them succeed in life. The good news is that these odds can be overcome by putting constructive strategies to work.”

The Priority Male Institute (PMI) is a free 16-week life skills and job readiness program for young males, 18-28 years of age, sponsored by the Community Council of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc. The goal of the PMI is to provide training and resources that will help young black men, in the targeted age group, reach their full potential, and live more productive lives. Weekly classes are held from Monday – Thursday, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.
The PMI curriculum includes personal assessments, classes, workshops, field trips, internships, mentoring and other activities. Books, school supplies, MARTA cards, and lunch are also provided. The 2017 PMI will be expanded to include four weeks of specialized training for entry-level jobs in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) industry. Employers and businesses are invited to serve as PMI Internship Partners for the 2016 session. CCMA offers employers the opportunity to participate in the PMI Employment Partnership by hiring young men, who have been trained and equipped to excel in the workplace. CCMA also partners with other community organizations, public agencies, churches, local businesses, and individual volunteers to more effectively meet the needs of young men enrolled in the PMI. Special needs include educational supplies, MARTA cards, computer equipment, field trip transportation, lunch, workshop leaders/facilitators, mentors, life skill coaches, and financial support. The Community Council of Metropolitan Atlanta is not funded by grants, and receives no ongoing funding from outside resources. Programs are funded by Board members, individual donors, churches, and local businesses. All donations are tax-deductible, and are used solely for charitable purposes. |
