ELISHA REED'S TESTIMONIAL

Picture
I am a 23-year-old unemployed Black male who lives with my mother and my 20-year-old brother.  I have never had a strong male role model to help guide me to manhood because I grew up without my father being in the household and he was murdered last year.

My mother is a great provider and advised me about the Training & Career Development Forum presented by the Community Council of Metropolitan Atlanta on October 25, 2022 and I attended it on Zoom. During the forum, I learned about training opportunities available in the city that I was not aware of, including Culinary Arts, IT, Construction Trades, and Healthcare.

After this event I signed up for the Culinary Arts training provided by Westside Works and am now enrolled in the six-week culinary academy. This program is amazing. Having culinary class in the Mercedes Benz stadium is eye opening and motivates me to dream big. I love being able to see the Atlanta skyline as I gain a special trade.

I would have never known about this program if it wasn't for my mother and my curiosity.  I can't wait to excel and share it with others. I hope to use all the resources provided, so I can give it to another person who may be in same shoes as I was.  I aspire to change the world one step at a time. I have hopes to open my own gym with a garden where I can help the community become more healthy and self-sufficient.

The Community Council also gave me a laptop computer to help me further my education. I thank the Community Council and Westside Works for this amazing opportunity.
